Setup WiFi on the 8level WRT-150

The 8level WRT-150 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

Login To The 8level WRT-150

To get started configuring the 8level WRT-150 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the 8level WRT-150

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

This guide begins on the Status page of the 8level WRT-150 router. To configure your WiFi, click the option in the left sidebar labeled Wireless then under that choose Wireless Settings.

You should now be on a page like the one you see above.

  • To change your SSID or network name, enter the new name you have chosen in the box labeled SSID. This name should not contain any personal information. We have a good guide on the subject of wireless names.
  • Skip down to the SSID Broadcast. If you choose to Enable this it will be visible to your neighbors. If you Disable it, it becomes invisible to the neighbors but not to a hacker with the proper tools to find networks.
  • Now, scroll down to the Channel. In the United States you can only use 1-11. Of those 11 channels only three work well with each other. When choosing a channel use either 1,6, or 11. For more information on this topic, check out our guide on WiFi channels.
  • When you are finished on this page, click the Save button.

There is one other page to go to when you want to secure your WiFi. Click the link in the left sidebar titled Wireless Security.

  • The Authentication Type. This refers to the type of security you want to use for your network. From this drop down menu choose the option of WPA2-PSK encryption type of AES. WPA2-PSK with AES is the best encryption security available for your network. It is considered uncrackable with today's technology.   • Next, you need to choose the type of Pre-Shared Key you will use. Choose the alphanumeric choice. It may be written like ASCII or Alphanumeric format.
  • Now enter the Pre-Shared Key. This is the password you use to access your network. This password shouldn't contain any personal information that could easily be guessed. Don't use any word that could be found in any dictionary, in any language. Do use symbols, capital letters, and numbers.   • When you are finished, click the Save button.

That's it, you are done!

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
