This directs you to a page very similar to the one you see here.

First, find the box labeled Channel. You may want to change your channel if you are not getting the reception you think you should. In the United States you can use channels 1-11. Of these channels there are only three that should be used by everyone. WiFi channels is a great guide explaining why you should only use channels 1,6, and 11.

Now scroll down to the box titled Primary SSID. The SSID is another name for your network name. Enter the name you want to use to identify your network from those around you. We recommend not using any personal information in this name. For more information on this subject, click the link titled Wireless name.

Make sure to click the Enabled box to the left of the name you just created.

To the right of that name, click the Hidden SSID box if you want to make your SSID invisible. Remember that this doesn't mean you are invisible to a potential hacker. A hacker has the proper tools to scan for your network whether it is visible or not.

Looking to the right, you should see a drop down box labeled Security. We recommend choosing WPA2 for your security. WPA2 is the strongest security available today. For more information on this, check out our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

Farther to the right is the Password. This is very important to the security of your network. This password should be as long as possible and as random as possible. Do not use any personal information or any word you could find in a dictionary. If you need to use a word or words, be sure to misspell them. Do use symbols, numbers, and capital letters in the middle of the password. For help in creating a strong and memorable password, check out our guide on How to choose a strong password. Creating a good password can be a lot of fun.

When you are finished, be sure to click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
