Setup WiFi on the Ambit U10C037

This guide begins on the Cable Modem Information page of the Ambit U10C037. To change the WiFi settings, click the link at the top of the page labeled WIRELESS. Then, be sure that Basic is chosen on the left.

You are then directed to a page that looks similar to the one you see above.

  • Network Name (SSID) - This is the name that identifies your network from others around you. Create an original name that you will remember, but don't use any personal information. For more information on your network name, check out our guide titled Wireless name.
  • Channel - You need to check to make sure you are using either channel 1,6, or 11. Of the 11 channels in the United States, these three are the only ones that don't overlap if everyone used them. For more information on why you should only use these three channels, check out our guide titled WiFi channels.
  • That's it on this page, simply click the Apply button.

Now, click Security in the left sidebar.

You should now be on a page like the one you see here.

  • Near the top of the page, choose WPA2-PSK and use the drop down menu to pick Enabled. This is the strongest form of security available today. For more information, check out our guide at WEP vs. WPA.
  • A little farther down use the WPA/WPA2 Encryption drop down menu to choose Enabled.
  • Below that is the WPA Pre-Shared Key. This is the password you use to access your network. It is also use to encrypt your data. This is an extremely important step in securing your network. This password should be at least 20 characters. You can use any symbol, number, lower and capital letter on the keyboard. Don't use any words you could find in a dictionary. Don't use anything that is easy to guess, like personal information. For more information on this check out our guide titled How to choose a strong password.
  • Nothing else should be changed on this page, just click Apply before exiting.

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
