Setup WiFi on the Amped Wireless R10000

The Amped Wireless R10000 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

Login To The Amped Wireless R10000

To get started configuring the Amped Wireless R10000 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Amped Wireless R10000

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

Beginning on the Welcome page of the Amped-Wireless R10000 router, click the link on the left side of the page labeled More Settings. Then, below that choose Wireless Settings, and Basic Settings.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Amped Wireless R10000

You should now be on the page you see above. Scroll down until you see the Wireless Network ID (SSID). This is the name that identifies your network from your neighbors. Make a creative name, but don't use any personal information. For more information on this topic, check out our guide on Wireless names.

Next is the Channel Number. In the United States there are only 11 channels you can use. Of these channels, there are three that everyone should use. Pick from channel 1,6, or 11. For reasons why you should use these three channels only, check out our guide titled WiFi channels.

When you are finished, click the green APPLY button.

Now, click Security Settings in the left sidebar.

On this new page, use the drop down menu under Select Wireless Network to choose the network name you just created on the previous page.

Next to Encryption, choose WPA2. This is the most secure choice available today. For more information on what this is and why, check out our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

Under that is the Authentication Mode. Choose Personal (Pre-Shared Key).

Next to WPA2 Cipher Suite, choose AES. AES is considered uncrackable right now. TKIP has already been cracked.

Use the drop down menu next to Pre-Shared Key Format to choose Passphrase.

Now, use the box next to Pre-Shared Key to enter the password you will use to access your network. This is an important step to the security of your network. Make your password long, at least 20 characters, and random. Don't use personal information. Don't use any word you could find in a dictionary. Do use some symbols, numbers, and capital letters somewhere in your password. For help in creating a strong password check out our guide called How to choose a strong password.

That's it, just click APPLY and you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
