In this guide I will show you how to reset the Arris DCX3635 router back to factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. A reboot is simply turning the device off and back on again. A reset erases every setting you have ever changed and returns it to factory defaults.

Warning: A reset should be a last resort. All your previously changed settings are erased. These include:

  • the router's username and password.
  • the wireless settings including the SSID and the Internet password.
  • If you have DSL Internet, you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. Call your ISP for this information.
  • all other settings including the WiFi security and any IP addresses you have changed.

Reset the Arris DCX3635

The first step in a reset is to find the reset button. For the Arris DCX3635 router you can find it on the back panel. It is a tiny red button and should be on the right side of the back panel.

Take a pin or unfolded paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process which can sometimes take up to several minutes to complete.

DO NOT unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. Doing so can cause permanent damage to the device, making it useless.

Please remember a reset like this one erases every single setting you have ever changed in the past. I strongly recommend exhausting all other troubleshooting options before you continue.

Login to the Arris DCX3635

Once the reset is complete and the router has turned itself back on (this can take several minutes or longer) you can login to the router interface using the router's default information. This information can be found in the Login Guide for the Arris DCX3635 router.

Change Your Password

After a successful login it is highly recommended that you create a new password for your router. This is not the same thing as the WiFi password. To help you with this, we have a Choosing a Strong Password guide you can read.

Tip: One way to avoid losing this password is to write it down on a slip of paper and attach it to the bottom of the router for next time.

Check the WiFi Settings

It is also very important that you check the WiFi settings. Some router manufacturers leave the WiFi security open by default. This needs to be changed immediately. We recommend using WPA2 encryption with a strong Internet password.
