On this page we will show you how to properly reset the Arris SBG7580-AC router back to factory defaults. This is not the same as a reboot. A reboot is simply a cycle in the power to the device.

Warning: Some settings that are changed in a factory reset are:

  • the router login username and password.
  • the WiFi username and password.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. To find out what this is call your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
  • Any other settings you have changed in the past such as IP addresses, port forwards, or wireless security.

Reset the Arris SBG7580-AC

The very first step in a factory reset is to find the reset button on the device. This is usually a small pinhole on the router. For the Arris SBG7580-AC router you can find it on the back panel near the top. I have circled it for you in the image below:

Take a unfolded paperclip or similar object and press the reset button for about 10 seconds until the LED lights on the front of the router blink. This begins the reset process and can take several minutes to complete.

Warning: DO NOT unplug or turn off the router during this process. Doing so can cause permanent damage to the device.

Remember a factory reset like this one erases every single setting you have ever changed. Please exhaust your other options before you decide to reset the device.

Login to the Arris SBG7580-AC

After the reset is finished you can login to the Arris SBG7580-AC router. To do this you need to use the default values. If you need help with this, follow our instructions on this Arris SBG7580-AC Login Guide.

Change Your Password

Once you have logged into the router it is a very good idea to change the router login username and password to protect your settings. If you need help with this, follow our instructions on Choosing a Strong Password.

Tip: One way to avoid losing this password is to write it down on a piece of paper and attach it to the bottom of the device for future reference.

Setup WiFi on the Arris SBG7580-AC

One thing a lot of people forget to check after configuring a router is the WiFi settings. Some router manufacturers leave the wireless security open by default. This is extremely unsafe. Luckily the Arris SBG7580-AC router is not one of these. By default the Arris SBG7580-AC has a security of WPA2-Personal with AES encryption. This is the strongest security to date.

Even if you have the best security in the world, if your WiFi password is easy to guess there is really no point in have a security system in place. It's like having your front door locked but the key is right there in plain sight for anyone to take and use. Update your WiFi username and password.
