Have you been trying to login to the Arris TG862G-NA router without success? It is probably time for a reset. Now there is some confusion between a reset and a reboot. When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the unit. When you reset a router you take all the settings and return them all to factory defaults.

Warning: This means every single setting you have ever changed on the router is erased and reverted back to factory defaults. We suggest making a list of all the settings you may of changed in the past such as:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The WiFi username and password.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password. Call your ISP for these details.
  • Have you ever forwarded any ports or changed any IP addresses? If so you need to re-enter those as well when you reconfigure.

While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for more than 15 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold this button down for long enough you may end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Warning: Do not unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. Doing so could result in permanent damage to the router.

Don't forget that this reset is going to erase every personal setting you have ever changed in the past. It is a really good idea to exhaust your other resources first.
