Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address
Port forwarding the Arris WTM552G to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.
Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.
Login To The Arris WTM552G
To get started forwarding a port you need to login to your Arris WTM552G router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Forward a Port on the Arris WTM552G router
Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Arris WTM552G
After you have logged into the Arris WTM552G you begin on the Status page. First, click the choice on the left side of the screen labeled Firewall. This opens more links to choose from, pick the one labeled Virtual Servers.
Configure the Port Forwarding section of your Arris WTM552G
Now to forward a port, make the following changes:
You should now be on the Virtual Servers page.
- Place a check mark in the Enable box.
- In the box labeled Description write the name of the program, or something that is going to help you remember why you are doing this.
- If you are forwarding a single port, enter that number into both the Inbound port and Private port boxes. If you are forwarding multiple ports, enter the lowest number in the range in the left box of both Inbound port and Private port. Type the highest number in the right box of both the Inbound port and Private port.
- Next is the Type drop down menu. Use this menu to choose the type of protocol you want to use.
- Last is the Private IP address box. Enter the IP Address you are forwarding these ports to in this box. If you are forwarding ports to run a program on your computer, be sure and use that computer's IP Address.
- That's it! Just don't forget to save before you exit, the Save button is close to the top of the page.
Test if Your Ports are Open
Now that you have forwarded ports on the Arris WTM552G you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
