Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address

Port forwarding the Dlink DI-774 to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.

Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.

Login To The Dlink DI-774

To get started forwarding a port you need to login to your Dlink DI-774 router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Forward a Port on the Dlink DI-774 router

Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Dlink DI-774

You're first placed on the Home page of the Dlink DI-774 router. To forward a port, click the link at the top of the page labeled Advanced. Then look to the left, click Virtual Server in the left sidebar.

Now to forward a port, make the following changes:

  1. On this new page, tick the radio button of Enabled.
  2. Use the Name box to enter the name of the program you are forwarding this port for. This is for your future reference, so make it something that helps you remember why you are forwarding this port.
  3. Next is the Private IP. Enter the local IP address of the computer you are forwarding this port to. If you are unsure of your computer's IP address, What is my IP Address is a really good guide on how to find it.
  4. Then, use the Protocol Type drop down menu to select the type of protocol you need to use to forward this port.
  5. Now enter the port number in the Private Port box, and again in the Public Port box.
  6. Set the Schedule to Always.
  7. Click the green button labeled Apply.

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Dlink DI-774 you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
