Here I explain how to reset the Dlink DI-804HV router back to it's original factory defaults. A reset is not the same thing as a reboot. When I use the word reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the device. When I use the word reset I am referring to a complete factory restore of all settings.
Warning: This means every single setting you have ever changed is reverted back to how it was straight from the factory. We recommend making a list of all the settings you have changed in the past. Consider the following:
- The router's setup username and password are reverted to factory defaults.
- Have you made any other changes? All changes are erased. Be sure to write these down so you can reconfigure them after the reset process is complete.

Reset the Dlink DI-804HV
The first step in this reset is to find the reset button on the device itself. Looking at the image below we can see it is on the back panel.
Using a pin or unfolded paperclip press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you don't hold this button down for long enough you end up simply rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.
This reset erases every setting you have ever changed. Please be aware of this as you reset your router. If you want to try and avoid this loss you need to try other methods of troubleshooting.
Login to the Dlink DI-804HV
Now that you've reset your Dlink DI-804HV router you'll need to log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password. We have these listed for you in our Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in try holding the reset button down for longer.
Change Your Password
After you've logged into your router we recommend setting a new password. This can be anything you like, however keep in mind that a strong password consists of 14-20 characters and no personal information. For more help visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
Tip: Avoid losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the underside of your router.
