WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Netgear DG834GSP

Find the WiFi Settings on the Netgear DG834GSP

From here, click the option on the left side of the page labeled Wireless Settings. This can be found under the heading of Setup.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear DG834GSP

Once you are on this new page, the first box is titled Name(SSID). This is a name you need to create in order to identify your network. It's not important what you enter here but it's a good idea to avoid personal information. To learn more read our guide titled How to Change your Wireless Name.

Now skip down to the Channel. There are three channels that everyone should use. Use channels 1,6, or 11. Learn why in our guide titled WiFi Channels.

Then, find the section titled Security Options. There are several options available to you here, we recommend choosing the one titled WPA2-PSK(Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 with Pre-Shared Key). The last thing you need to enter is the Network Key. This is the password you use to gain access to your network. It is important that this password be as strong as possible. We recommend a minimum of 14-20 characters and at least one symbol, number, and capital letter. Learn more about password creation in our guide titled Choosing a Strong Password.

That's it, just don't forget to click the Apply button before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
