Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Netgear VMDG480

Find the WiFi Settings on the Netgear VMDG480

Start on the Home page of the Netgear VMDG480 router. Then, click the option at the bottom of the page labeled Advanced Settings.

This opens up a new page with a left sidebar full of choices. Click Wireless Settings under the Setup heading.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear VMDG480

The first section on this new page is titled Wireless Network. In this section there are two settings that need your attention. The first is titled SSID. This is the network name. Change this name to one of your choosing. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Check out our Wireless Names Guide for more information. The second setting in this section is titled Channel. Make sure you are using channel 1,6, or 11. Find out why in our WiFi Channels Guide.

The next section is titled Security Mode. There are six different choices here. For maximum security choose the security option of WPA2-PSK[AES]. Find out why in our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

The last setting that needs to be changed for your wireless security is the Passphrase. You should use a minimum of 14-20 characters in your new password. Learn more ideas for strengthening your password in our guide, found by clicking this link.

That's all there is to do, click the Apply button and you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
