Setup WiFi on the Netgear WNR834B

Login To The Netgear WNR834B

Find the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WNR834B

This wireless guide begins on the Basic Settings page of the Netgear WNR834B router. First you need to click the Wireless Settings option in the left sidebar. This is found under the main heading of Setup.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WNR834B

On this page, find the Name(SSID) and enter a new name for your network. It doesn't really matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information.

Next is the Channel. Make sure you are using channels 1,6, or 11.

In the Security Options section there are only two choices available. We recommend updating your firmware to allow for the most secure option of WPA2-PSK[AES] only.

The final setting that needs to be changed is titled Passphrase. This is the password you use to access your network and should be strong. Use a minimum of 14 to 20 characters here.

That's it, your WiFi is now more secure. Don't forget to click the Apply button before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
