On this page we show you how to reset the Dlink DI-714P+ router back to the original factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot your router you end up cycling the power to the device. When you reset a router you take all the settings and return every single one of them back to factory defaults.
Warning: Resetting this router can cause additional problems if you don't know which settings are changed and what ones are not. Take the following list into consideration before you reset this device:
The first step in resetting the Dlink DI-714P+ router is to locate the reset button. Flip the router over so you are looking at the back panel of the device. The reset button should be located on the far left side of the device. Take a look at the image below.
Next take the end of a paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. Make sure you hold the reset button down for the entire amount of time. If you don't you may end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.
Remember this reset will erase every setting you have ever changed. If you want to try and avoid this you need to exhaust your other troubleshooting ideas first.
After resetting the Dlink DI-714P+ router you should log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password. These are provided for you in our Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults don't seem to be logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.
Now that you've logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. This can be whatever you want it to be, however remember that a strong password consists of 14-20 characters and includes no personal information. For more help be sure to visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
Tip: Prevent yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
It's time to check on the wireless settings. This should include the SSID, the security type, and the Internet password. We recommend using WPA2 as your security with a good strong password. Consider looking at our guide titled How to Setup WiFi on the Dlink DI-714P+ for more details.
