This guide will go over how to reset the Actiontec MI424WR-GEN2-Rev-F router to factory defaults. This is not the same thing as rebooting the router which is simply cycling the power by turning it off and back on again. Resetting the router is more involved and completely reverts the router back to how it was when it came from the factory.

Warning: Resetting your router is serious and should not be taken lightly. Do not reset the router until you have considered the following:

  • Your router username and password are reset.
  • The WiFi SSID/username and password are reset.
  • If you have a DSL router it will lose connection to the Internet if you don't know the ISP username and password. If you are unsure of these you need to call your ISP.
  • All configurations you have made to personalize this router are erased. This includes any firewalls you created or port forwards you put in place.
