In this guide I will show you how to factory reset the Actiontec GT784WN Bell Aliant router back to factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. A reboot is simply cycling the power off and then on again. A factory reset reverts ALL settings back to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting a router erases every setting you have ever changed. Items you may not of considered are:

  • The router interface username and password are erased.
  • The WiFi username and password are erased.
  • If you use DSL, the ISP username and password are erased.
  • All port forwarding, IP address changes, DNS settings are erased as well.

Reset the Actiontec GT784WN

The first step in a factory reset is locating the reset button on the outside of the router. Router manufacturers don't want this button to be easy to bump. The "button" is actually more like a pinhole.

Take a pin or unfolded paperclip and press down on the reset button for a minimum of about 10 seconds to begin the reset process. The reset process can take several minutes to complete so be patient.

Warning: Do not unplug or turn off the router during this process. Doing so can cause permanent damage to the router.

Please remember this factory reset is erasing every setting you have ever changed in the past. I strongly recommend trying other options first.

Login to the Actiontec GT784WN

When you are finished resetting the Actiontec GT784WN Bell Aliant router you need to login to the router interface. To do this follow the directions on our Actiontec GT784WN Bell Aliant Login Guide.

Change Your Password

Once you have logged in using the default username and password, it is a very good idea to change the password to a more secure one.

TIP: I recommend writing this password down and sticking it to the bottom of the router for future reference.

Setup WiFi on the Actiontec GT784WN Bell Aliant Router

It is a very good idea to check on the WiFi settings after you have reset a router. Some router manufacturers leave the security open as default. We strongly recommend using WPA2 with a strong wireless password.
