How to Reset the Actiontec M1000 Qwest

This guide goes over how to reset the Actiontec M1000 Qwest router to factory defaults. There is a difference between resetting the router and rebooting the router. Rebooting refers to cycling the power by turning if off and back on again. Resetting the router changes your settings back to the factory defaults.

Warning: When you reset your router there are setting that are changed and this may be a problem if you are unaware of them. Some things to consider are:

  • The router's main username and password are reset.
  • The WiFi username and password are reset to factory defaults as well.
  • If you are using a DSL connection you will need to know your ISP username and password. If you are unsure of this info call your ISP.
  • All configurations or changes you have made will be erased. Everything from parental controls to port forwards need to be re-entered.

While your router is still on, turn it over so you are looking at the back panel.

Using a pen or the end of a paperclip press and hold the small reset button on the back of the router for about 10 seconds until the lights on the front change.

Resetting erases everything you have previously done to your Actiontec M1000 Qwest router. Be sure and try other troubleshooting methods first.
