Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address

Port forwarding the Arris WTM652G to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.

Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.

Login To The Arris WTM652G

To get started forwarding a port you need to login to your Arris WTM652G router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Forward a Port on the Arris WTM652G router

Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Arris WTM652G

Now that you have finished logging into the Arris WTM652G you begin on the Status page. Click the choice on the left side of the page labeled Firewall, then under that, Virtual Servers.

Configure the Port Forwarding section of your Arris WTM652G

Now to forward a port, make the following changes:

You are now on a page like the one you see above. In the first box labeled Enable put a check mark in this box.

Second, enter the name of the program in the box labeled Description. It is not essential what you put in this box, it should just be something that reminds you of why you are forwarding these ports.

If you happen to be forwarding only one port, then enter this number in both of the boxes that are labeled Inbound port and Private port. If you are forwarding multiple ports then you need to enter the lowest number of the range in the left box of both Inbound port and Private port and the highest number of the range in the right box of both Inbound port and Private port.

Next is the Type, use the drop down menu to choose the type of protocol you are going to use for these ports.

The last one is the Private IP Address. Enter the IP Address that you are forwarding the ports to. For instance, if you are forwarding these ports to run a program on your computer, then use that computer's IP Address.

Congratulations you are finished! All that is left is to click the Save button.

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Arris WTM652G you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
