In this guide I will show you how to reset the Amped Wireless RTA2600 router. The reset I will be discussing today is not the same thing as a reboot. A reboot simply cycles the power to the device. What I want to do is erase all the changed settings in the router interface and revert them back to factory default.

Warning: A reset will erase:

  • the router username and password.
  • the WiFi username and password.
  • the ISP username and password (if using DSL). Call your ISP for details.
  • All other settings you have changed in the past such as security and IP addresses.

Reset the Amped Wireless RTA2600

The first step in a reset is to find the reset button on the router itself. For the Amped Wireless RTA2600 router it is located on the back panel and looks like a pinhole.

Take a pin or unfolded paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds to begin the reset process for the router. This can take several minutes to complete.

DO NOT unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. Doing so can cause permanent damage to the device!

Remember this reset WILL erase every setting you have ever changed in the device in the past. A full reconfiguration is needed after the reset is finished.

Login to the Amped Wireless RTA2600

After the reset is complete and the Amped Wireless RTA2600 router has turned itself back on, you can go ahead and login to the router interface. Do this with the router's default information. You can find this information in the Amped Wireless RTA2600 Login Guide I have written.

Change Your Password

Some Amped Wireless RTA2600 routers require you to create a username and password as part of the initial setup of the router. If your router did not do this, you need to create a new more secure password. To help you with this we recommend reading this Choosing a Strong Password.

Before exiting the router interface you need to check on the wireless security settings. I recommend setting the security to WPA2 with a strong password.
