In this guide I will cover how to reset the Arcadyan VGV7518 router to factory defaults. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. A reboot is cycling the power by turning it off and back on again to cycle the power. A reset isn't that hard to do but has more consequences.
Warning: Resetting a router can cause problems if you don't know what to expect. We strongly recommend considering the following before you continue.
- Your router username and password are reset.
- The SSID/username and password are reset.
- If you use a DSL connection it will need to be re-entered in order to keep using your Internet. You can get this information from the ISP or Internet Service Provider.
- All configurations you have made need to be re-entered. This could include anything from port forwards to IP address changes.

Use a VPN Instead
Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.
We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.
When shopping for a VPN, make sure that they meet the following criteria:
- Your VPN provider should have a no-logs policy. This means that they do not keep any logs of any kind.
- Make sure that your VPN provider has lots of exit nodes all around the world.
- Check that your VPN will not affect your speed.
- Verify that your VPN provider uses WireGuard as the underlying protocol.
- Many people prefer a VPN provider that is not based in the United States.
This is the list of requirements that we used when we were shopping around for a VPN provider. There are lots of free, shady VPN providers out there that we looked at and dismissed.
Based in Panama, using diskless servers, and with over 6,100 servers in 61 countries, we can safely say that NordVPN satisfies all of these requirements.
Once you've set up your NordVPN account on multiple computers and enabled Meshnet, you can seamlessly access all of your devices as if they were on the same network. You don't even have to log in to your router. It's very simple.
Every time you click on one of our affiliate links, such as NordVPN, we get a little kickback for introducing you to the service. Think of us as your VPN wingman.
The first thing you want to do on any reset is to keep the router on. Do not unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. This could cause permanent damage to the router.
Now you need to find the reset button. It is very tiny and normally can be found on the back panel. Look at the image below for reference.
Using the tip of a sharp pencil or pin press and hold the reset button for approximately 10 seconds.
Don't forget that this will erase all of your settings. This should be tried only after you have exhausted other troubleshooting methods.
Login to the Arcadyan VGV7518

Change Your Password
The next thing to do is change that password to something new. It can be difficult to come up with new passwords. We have created a guide containing a list of helpful hints in creating a strong password. Please take a look at our Choosing a Strong Password.
Tip: Write this new password down on a piece of paper and attach it to the bottom of the router for future reference.
Setup WiFi on the Arcadyan VGV7518
The last setting we recommend setting is the WiFi security. Don't forget that everything is reset including the security. Some router manufacturers like to leave the security open as the default. This means your network is not secure, anyone can use it. Change this to WPA2-PSK. If you need help with this check out our How to Setup WiFi on the Arcadyan VGV7518 guide.
Don't forget to sign up for NordVPN's promo deal before it's gone.
