On this page we show you how to reset the Cisco EPC3828D router back to factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a router reboot. A reboot is cycling the power to the device. A reset takes all the settings and reverts them to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting a router can cause problems if you don't know what to expect from a router reset. Please consider the following before you begin the reset:

  • The router username and password are reverted.
  • The Internet name and password are reverted to default also.
  • If you use a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. This information can be gotten by calling your local Internet Service Provider
  • Have you made any other changes to your router? These will need to be re-configured after the reset process is complete.

Reset the Cisco EPC3828D

Once you decide to reset your router you need to know where the reset button is located. On this particular router it is on the

router reset factory settings
This is the reset page from your Cisco EPC3828D router.

This button is quite small. You need to take an unwound paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you don't hold this button down for the entire time you will end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember this will erase every setting you have ever changed. If you want to avoid having to reconfigure your entire router you should definitely try other troubleshooting methods first.
