How to Reset the Dlink DCS-900v2

On this page I show you how to reset the Dlink DCS-900v2 Internet camera back to it's original factory default settings. Before we begin I need to explain the difference between two commonly confused words I will be using. The first is reboot. When I use this word I am referring to a cycle in power to the device. This can be done manually by unplugging the power source, waiting a full 30 seconds, then plugging the power back in. When I say reset I am referring to a complete factory restore of settings. This means every single setting you have ever changed is reverted back to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this camera can be a problem if you don't understand what is happening. Don't take this reset lightly. Consider the following before you continue:

  • The camera's main username and password are erased and put back to how they were from the factory.
  • Write down any other settings you have ever changed. This could include IP address assignments or Dynamic DNS settings. These are all erased and need to be re-entered after the reset process is complete.

Begin this reset by locating the reset button on the outside of the device itself. For this particular model it can be found on the back panel. We have circled the reset button for you in red.

As you can see from the above image this reset button is very small and recessed. Take the tip of an unwound paperclip or pin and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. It is not specified how long exactly and some Dlink cameras require the reset button to be held down for a full 30 seconds before the reset takes place. If you find 10 seconds wasn't long enough go ahead and try again for about 30 seconds. If you don't hold the reset button down for long enough the camera will simply reboot instead of reset.

Resetting this camera WILL erase every setting you have ever changed to this device. If you want to try and avoid this you should try other troubleshooting techniques.

Login to the Dlink DCS-900v2

After resetting your Dlink DCS-900v2 camera you'll need to log into it. Do this by using the default username and password. Not sure what these are? We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because you didn't hold the reset button down for long enough.

Change Your Password
