Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address

Port forwarding the Dlink DI-724U to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.

Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.

Login To The Dlink DI-724U

To get started forwarding a port you need to login to your Dlink DI-724U router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Forward a Port on the Dlink DI-724U router

Find The Port Forwarding Section of the Dlink DI-724U

When forwarding a port, you begin on the Home page of the Dlink DI-724U router. First, tick the blue tab at the top of the page labeled Advanced. This action creates a new set of choices on the left side of the page, click the new link of Port Forwarding.

Configure the Port Forwarding section of your Dlink DI-724U

Now to forward a port, make the following changes:

You are then directed to a page very similar to the one you see above.

First, tick the Enabled radio button at the top of the page.

Second, use the Name box to enter the name of the program you are forwarding these ports to. This step is for your future reference.

The third step is the IP Address. You need to enter the LAN IP address of the specific computer you are forwarding these ports to. If you don't know your computer's local IP address, clicking the following link will take you to our guide on how to find it, What is my IP Address.

Next, enter the ports you are forwarding in the TCP Ports to Open and again in the UDP Ports to Open. You can either enter the ports as a list, such as 22,29,35, or a range, like, 500-600, or even a combination of the two, 22,56,500-600.

Set the Firewall Rule to Allow All.

For the Schedule, you should choose Always.

Once you have followed all these steps, click the green Apply checkmark.

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Dlink DI-724U you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
