This takes you to a page like the one you see here. First, change the default SSID. This is the name you give your home network so that you can find it again later. While you should be creative, don't use personal information. To learn more, read our Wireless Names Guide.

Next, use the drop down list labeled Channel. Make sure you are using channel 1,6, or 11. These three channels should be used if you have any neighbors. To learn why, read our WiFi Channels Guide.

Below that is the Authentication. We recommend WPA-PSK. This is the best option for this router. If you want the most up to date security option, update your firmware version to allow for WPA2-PSK. To learn the about the differences in the security options, read our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

Now enter a Passphrase. This is the password you are to use to gain access to your network. This password should be strong. At least 14-20 characters long and include some symbols, numbers, and letters. To learn more about passwords and how to make them strong, read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Re-enter this password in the box labeled Confirmed Passphrase.

That's all there is to it, just click the Apply button and you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
