You are then taken to a page that looks like the one you see above. Click the button labeled Manual Wireless Network Setup.

This, in turn, takes you to a page that we do not have. On this new page, go to the section titled WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS. Then find the Wireless Network Name. This is the name you create to identify your wireless network. Be creative, but don't use any personal information. To learn more about this, read our guide titled Wireless Names.

Below that is the Enable Auto Channel Selection. If you want to change the channel, uncheck this box. Then below that in the Wireless Channel pull-down menu, choose from channels 1,6, or 11. These three channels are the most you can get out of the spectrum without overlapping. Be sure you are on one of these channels. To learn more, read our WiFi Channels Guide.

The next section is titled WIRELESS SECURITY MODE. Use the pull-down menu next to Security Mode to choose WPA2 Only. To learn the differences in the security modes, read our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

Now use the Cipher Type drop down menu to choose AES. AES is considered the most secure form of encryption.

Choose PSK from the PSK/EAP.

Finally, place your cursor in the Network Key box. This is the password you use to gain access to your network. We recommend using at least 14-20 characters. Use a combination of numbers, symbols, and letters in this password. To learn more about creating a strong and memorable password, read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Click Save Settings before you exit and you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
