On this page I will be showing you how to correctly reset the Dlink DVG-5102S router back to the original factory defaults. The terms reset and reboot are often confused with one another. When I refer to a reboot on this page I am referring to a cycle in the power to the device. When I use the term reset I am referring to a complete factory restore of all settings. This means every single setting you have ever changed is erased and replaced with the original factory defaults.

Warning: A lot of settings could be changed during this reset or maybe just a few depending on how much you have changed it since you got it. We recommend making a list of all the settings you have changed in the past. Take the following into consideration:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • Port forwards
  • DNS address changes
  • IP address changes

Now that you have decided to continue with a reset you need to find the physical reset button on the outside of the device. I have found an image of the reset button on this router. I have circled the exact location of the reset in the image below.

While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 5 seconds to start the reset process. If you don't hold this button down for long enough you may only reboot the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember this reset is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed on your device. If you want to avoid this we highly recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting to solve your problem.

Login to the Dlink DVG-5102S

Once you've reset the Dlink DVG-5102S router you'll need to log into it. Do this by using the factory default username and password. If you're not sure where you can find these, don't worry. We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not logging you in? It might be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Now that you've reset and logged into your router we suggest setting a new password for it. This can be anything you want, however keep in mind that a strong password can be difficult to come up with. For help in doing so check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Avoid losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and putting it on the bottom of your router.
