On this page I will be showing you how to properly reset the DrayTek Vigor2132F router back to the original factory default settings. A lot of people use the word reset to mean both a factory restore and a reboot. In this guide when I use the term reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the unit only. When I use the term reset I am referring to a complete factory restore of all settings. This means any changes you have made in the past to the DrayTek Vigor2132F router will be erased and returned to how they were when they left the factory.

Warning: A reset is a big step and shouldn't be taken lightly. We strongly recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting before you decide to reset this router. Create a list of all the settings you may of changed in the past. Some of the more commonly changed settings include:

  • The router's interface username and password.
  • The Internet name and password.
  • If you are resetting a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP (Internet Service Provider) username and password. Call your ISP for this information.
  • Port forwards you have setup or IP address changes are another common setting that is changed.

Use a VPN Instead

Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.

We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.

When shopping for a VPN, make sure that they meet the following criteria:

  • Your VPN provider should have a no-logs policy. This means that they do not keep any logs of any kind.
  • Make sure that your VPN provider has lots of exit nodes all around the world.
  • Check that your VPN will not affect your speed.
  • Verify that your VPN provider uses WireGuard as the underlying protocol.
  • Many people prefer a VPN provider that is not based in the United States.

This is the list of requirements that we used when we were shopping around for a VPN provider. There are lots of free, shady VPN providers out there that we looked at and dismissed.

Based in Panama, using diskless servers, and with over 6,100 servers in 61 countries, we can safely say that NordVPN satisfies all of these requirements.

NordVPN faster than ever deal!

Once you've set up your NordVPN account on multiple computers and enabled Meshnet, you can seamlessly access all of your devices as if they were on the same network. You don't even have to log in to your router. It's very simple.

Every time you click on one of our affiliate links, such as NordVPN, we get a little kickback for introducing you to the service. Think of us as your VPN wingman.

Do you know where the physical reset button is located on the outside of your router? You can find it on the front panel to the left. Just look at the image below for a more exact location.

While the router is on, take a straightened non-metallic paperclip and press down on the reset button for a minimum of 5 seconds until the ACT light begins to flash faster than it was before. If you don't hold the reset button down long enough you end up only rebooting the device instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember a reset like this one is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed on your device. We strongly recommend trying other ways of fixing your problem before trying a reset.

Login to the Draytek Vigor 2132F

Once you've reset the DrayTek Vigor2132F router you'll need to log into it. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where you can find these? We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Now that you've logged into your router you'll need to set a password for it. Bear in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. All the same, setting a strong password is always a good idea. For help in doing so take a look through our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a slip of paper and taping it to the bottom of your router.
