On this page I will be explaining how to reset the Edimax AR-7084A router back to the original factory defaults. A reset like the one I am talking about is not the same thing as a reboot. When I use the word reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the unit. When I use the word reset I am talking about the more extreme factory restore of all previously configured settings.
Warning: Resetting this router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. Before you begin to reset the Edimax AR-7084A router we recommend creating a list of all possible settings you have changed in the past. This should include:
- The router's main username and password.
- The Internet name and password.
- If you own a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. This information can be gathered by calling your ISP.
- Have you ever forwarded a port or changed an IP address.

Use a VPN
Have you considered using a VPN when you connect to the internet? A VPN is a great way to increase your security and anonymity while surfing.
We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes securely sharing your home network super simple. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.
When shopping for a VPN, make sure that they meet the following criteria:
- Your VPN provider should have a no-logs policy. This means that they do not keep any logs of any kind.
- Make sure that your VPN provider has lots of exit nodes all around the world.
- Check that your VPN will not affect your speed.
- Verify that your VPN provider uses WireGuard as the underlying protocol.
- Many people prefer a VPN provider that is not based in the United States.
This is the list of requirements that we used when we were shopping around for a VPN provider. There are lots of free, shady VPN providers out there that we looked at and dismissed.
Based in Panama, using diskless servers, and with over 6,100 servers in 61 countries, we can safely say that NordVPN satisfies all of these requirements.
Once you've set up your NordVPN account on multiple computers and enabled Meshnet, you can seamlessly access all of your devices as if they were on the same network. You don't even have to log in to your router. It's very simple.
Every time you click on one of our affiliate links, such as NordVPN, we get a little kickback for introducing you to the service. Think of us as your VPN wingman.
Do you know where the reset button is located on your router? For the Edimax AR-7084A router it is found on the back panel of the device. Take a look at the image below where I have circled it's location in red.
While the router is on, take a straightened out paperclip or similar object and press down for more than 5 seconds. If you don't hold the reset button down for more than 5 seconds you end up simply rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.
Don't forget that this reset erases every single setting you have ever changed on the device. We strongly recommend that a reset like this be your last option after exhausting any other troubleshooting methods you can think of.
Login to the Edimax AR-7084A
Now that you've reset your Edimax AR-7084A router you'll want to log into. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where to find these? We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.
Change Your Password
After you've logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. Keep in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. All the same, setting a strong password is always a good choice. For help in doing so be sure to visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
Tip: Prevent yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
