If you are having trouble logging into the Eminent EM4420 router and the default username and password are not working you may need to reset the Eminent EM4420 router.

What is a reset and how is it different from a reboot?

  • Reboot - A reboot is a simple cycle in the power to the device.
  • Reset - A reset is a complete factory restore of all settings. This means every single setting you have ever changed is erased and returned to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting the Eminent EM4420 router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. We recommend making a list of settings you think might of been changed such as:

  • The router's main username and password
  • Any port forwards, IP addresses, DNS servers...

Reset the Eminent EM4420

The first step in a reset is to find the reset button. Normally I have an image to show you of the back panel or underside of the device where the reset is found, but I don't have an image of the Eminent EM4420 to show you. Below is the typical location of a reset. The Eminent EM4420 might be a little different.

While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds to initiate the reset process. If you don't hold this button down for the entire amount of time you might end up only rebooting the device instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember this reset is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed on this device. We highly recommend you try other ways of fixing your problem before you decide to reset the Eminent EM4420 router.

Login to the Eminent EM4420

Now that you've reset the Eminent EM4420 router you should log into it. Do this by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where you can find these? We have them listed for your use in the Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

After you've reset and logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. Bear in mind that a strong password consists of 14-20 characters and includes no personal information. For more help be sure to check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the underside of your router.
