On this page I will show you how to reset the Engenius ESR900 router. A reset is not the same thing as a reboot. A reboot is a cycle in the power to the unit. A reset is a complete factory restore of all settings. This means every single setting you have ever changed is erased and reverted back to factory defaults.

Warning: Be careful when you reset the Engenius ESR900 router. We strongly recommend that you create a list of possible settings you have changed in the past such as:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The Wireless information such as network name and password.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP (Internet Service Provider) username and password.
  • If you have made any other changes such as port forwards or IP addresses write these down as well.

Reset the EnGenius ESR900

It is now time to find the physical reset button on the outside of the device. I have circled it's location for you in the image below.

router reset factory settings
This is the reset page from your EnGenius ESR900 router.

While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold the reset button down for long enough you end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember a reset like the one you are about to do is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed. Make sure you try other troubleshooting methods before you continue.

Login to the EnGenius ESR900

After you've reset the Engenius ESR900 router you'll want to log into it. This can be accomplished by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where to find these? We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Following that we suggest setting a new password for your router. Keep in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. All the same, setting a strong password is always a good decision. For help in doing so be sure to check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Prevent yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the underside of your router.

Setup WiFi on the Engenius ESR900

It is now time to reconfigure the Engenius ESR900 router. This needs to include the wireless settings. For a great guide on the topic check out our How to Setup WiFi on the page.
