If you have tried to login to the Fortinet FortiGate-60C router and are unable to you may need to reset the Fortinet FortiGate-60C router.

What exactly is a reset? In this guide when I use the term reset I am referring to a complete factory restore of all the settings. I will also use the term reboot to mean a cycle in the power to the Fortinet FortiGate-60C router.

Warning: A reset like the one I am going to show you is a big step and should not be taken lightly. We strongly encourage you to create a list of the settings you have changed in the past such as:

  • The router interface username and password.
  • The WiFi information such as network name and password.
  • If this is a DSL router, you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. Find out what these are by calling your local ISP.
  • Finally, have you ever changed an IP address? Have you done any port forwarding? If so these need to be reconfigured as well.

While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold this reset button down for long enough you may end up only rebooting the device instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember a reset like this one is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed in the past. Please consider other troubleshooting methods before you continue with this reset.

Login to the Fortinet FortiGate-60C

Once you've reset the Fortinet FortiGate-60C router you'll need to log into it. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password. Not sure what these are? Not to worry. We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it might be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Now that you've reset and logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. Remember that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. All the same, setting a strong password is always a good choice. For more help be sure to visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
