On this page I will show you how to properly reset the FRITZ WLAN 7490 router back to the original factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot something you cycle the power to the device. When you reset the router you take all the settings and change them all back to how they were from the factory.
Warning: This reset erases every setting you have ever changed in the history of this router. We recommend making a list of any settings you may of changed such as:
- The router's main username and password are reverted back to factory defaults.
- The Internet name and password are also put back to factory defaults.
- If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. You'll need to call your local Internet Service Provider for the details.
- Have you made any other changes to your FRITZ WLAN 7490? If so you need to write them down as well so you can reconfigure them after the reset is complete.

Reset the FRITZ BOX WLAN 7490
To properly reset the FRITZ WLAN 7490 you need to use a telephone associated with the Fritz WLAN.
- With the appropriate telephone press the keys #991*15901590*.
- Pick up the handset and hang it up again.
Once the factory settings have been loaded the FRITZ WLAN 7490 will restart. This could take a minute or two.
Remember this reset is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed in the lifetime of this router. We strongly recommend trying other methods first.
Login to the FRITZ BOX WLAN 7490
Following that you'll need to log into your FRITZ WLAN 7490 router. This is done by using the factory default username and password. Don't know where to get these? Not to worry. We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.
Change Your Password
Once you've logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. This can be anything you want it to be, however keep in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information. Tip: Afraid of losing your new password? Try writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
