If you have tried to login to the Huawei B681 router and been unable to do so you might need to reset the Huawei B681 router.

Please note, a reset is not a reboot. When you reboot a router you cyle the power to the unit. When you reset a router you do a complete factory restore of all the settings in the router's interface. This means every setting you have ever changed is erased and put back to how it was from the factory.

Warning: This reset is a big step and should not be taken lightly. There are many settings you may of changed. Take the following list into consideration before you decide to reset the Huawei B681 router.

  • The router's main username and password are erased and reverted back to how they were from the factory.
  • The WiFi information is also erased. This includes the SSID and the Internet password.
  • Is this a DSL router? If so you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. Call your local ISP (Internet Service Provider) for the information.
  • If you have made any other changes write them down. They are all erased in a reset.

While the Huawei B681 router is on take a bent paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold the reset button down long enough most routers will simply reboot instead of reset.

Don't forget that a reset like this one is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed in the lifetime of this device. We strongly recommend trying other methods before you continue.

Login to the Huawei B681

Now that you've reset the Huawei B681 router you'll want to log into it. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where you can find these? Don't worry. We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it might be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Once you've logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. Remember that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. All the same, setting a strong password is always a good choice. For help in doing so be sure to take a look through our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Avoid losing your new password by writing it on a slip of paper and taping it to the underside of your router.

Setup WiFi on the Huawei B681

When you start to reconfigure the Huawei B681 router don't forget to include the wireless settings. If you forget these your wireless network will be vulnerable. If you need a guide check out our Huawei B681 WiFi Instructions.
