Scroll down to the Wireless section and use the box labeled SSID to enter a new network name. This name acts as your network identification. It's not important what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Learn more in our Wireless Names Guide.

Below that is the Network Type. You are given the choice of Infrastructure and Ad-Hoc. We recommend choosing Infrastructure.

If you do choose Ad-Hoc, you will need to choose a Channel. Make sure you are using channels 1,6, or 11. If you are interested in learning why, read our WiFi Channels Guide.

Next is the Security. This option should be Enabled.

Now click Apply to save the settings on this page. Then click the button titled Edit Security Settings.

This takes you to a page that unfortunately we do not have. This particular firmware version only allows WEP security. Do not use WEP security, it is a very weak security standard. We highly recommend updating your firmware to allow for WPA2. Learn why in our WEP vs. WPA guide.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
