Setup WiFi on the Linksys WRT150N-PT

This WiFi guide starts on the Configuracao basica page of the Linksys WRT150N-PT router. From here, click the option at the top of the page labeled Sem fios. Then under that, in blue, choose Definicoes sem fios basicas.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Linksys WRT150N-PT

  • Modo de rede - This is asking what standard of wireless device you plan on using to access your network. We recommend choosing the option of Misto
  • Nome da rede (SSID) - This is the name you create in order to identify your network. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Learn more in our Wireless Name Guide.
  • Banda de radio - Go ahead and set this to Automatico.
  • Canal de banda larga - Use this drop down list to choose channel 6.
  • Canal padrao - Using this drop down menu, choose either channel 1 or 11. If you want to learn why you should only use these three channels, read our WiFi Channels Guide.
  • Guardar definicoes - Click this button near the bottom of the page to apply your changes.

Now click the option at the top, in blue, labeled Seguranca sem fios.

  • Modo de seguranca - This is asking what type of security you want to use. We recommend the most secure option of PSK2 Personal, also known as WPA2-PSK. Learn why this is the best choice for your home network in our WEP vs. WPA guide.
  • Encriptacao - Set this to AES.
  • Frase-passe - This is the password you type into your wireless device in order to connect to your local network. Do not use the default password. Hackers know the defaults and try these first when trying to access your network. Use a mixture of numbers, symbols, and letters and at least 14-20 characters.   • Guardar definicoes - Click this option to apply your changes.

That's it, you did it.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
