This article covers how to reset the Mitrastar HGW-2501GNP-NV router back to factory default settings. Resetting a router is different than rebooting a router. Every time your router loses power it reboots. This is different from a reset because a reset completely erases all settings from the router.

Warning: This is not a step to be taken lightly. A router reset will affect the following settings:

  • The router's login credentials are reset to factory defaults.
  • All WiFi login information and network names are reset.
  • Your ISP username and password will be reset, and you may have to contact your ISP.
  • Any firewall settings, parental controls, or port forwards that you have configured will be removed.

Resetting your router should be considered the last step. You should be sure that you have tried to at least recover your router password using our Router Password Finder before resorting to a router reset.

Reset the Mitrastar HGW-2501GNP-NV

Most of the time you can find a small reset button located on either the back or the bottom of a router. This is what a typical reset button looks like:

Router Reset Button

Even though yours may look slightly different, you need to look for a tiny button. You might find a pinhole on the back of the router that requires a paper clip to push the button hidden under it.

Keep an eye on the lights on the front of your router while holding the reset button down for about 10 seconds. After a few seconds the lights should blink differently. When this happens, the reset is complete. Keep holding the button as long as you want, it will not hurt anything to hold it down too long.

Don't forget, this step will totally reset your Mitrastar HGW-2501GNP-NV router back to factory settings.

Only take this last step of fully resetting your router after you have exhausted all other troubleshooting options, such as running our Router Password Finder software, which can recover a lost router password for you.

Do not forget to change your router's default password when you log back into it. It's a very bad idea to leave your router's password set to the factory default. Our Choosing a Strong Password guide can help you pick a strong password for your router.
