Setup WiFi on the Modecom MC-WR22

The Modecom MC-WR22 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Modecom MC-WR22

To get started configuring the Modecom MC-WR22 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Modecom MC-WR22

This wireless setup guide starts on the Status page of the Modecom MC-WR22 router. To begin configuring your wireless settings, click Wireless Setup in the left hand sidebar. From there, click the Basic tab near the top of the page.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Modecom MC-WR22

This takes you to a new page.

Start off by setting the Band to 2.4 GHz (B+G+N).

Now you need to set an SSID. This will serve as your network identification and can be anything you like. However, we strongly suggest avoiding any sort of personal information. For more on this topic, be sure to take a look at our Wireless Names Guide.

Following that, open the drop down menu labeled Channel Number and set it to either 1, 6, 11. To learn why these are the best options, see our WiFi Channels Guide.

When you're happy with these settings, click OK on the upper, right hand side of the page.

Click the tab labeled Security near the top of the page.

Here, begin by choosing the SSID you just created from the drop down list marked Select SSID.

Next, make sure that the Encryption is set to WPA2(AES). To learn why this will provide you with the best security, read our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

After that, be sure to set the Pre-Shared Key Format to Passphrase. You can now enter your desired passphrase into the box labeled Pre-Shared Key. We know a strong passphrase can be difficult to think up on your own, so we've created a Choosing a Strong Password Guide to help you out.

That's all there is to it. Just be sure to click OK before closing the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
