Setup WiFi on the Motorola Netopia-3000

The Motorola Netopia-3000 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Motorola Netopia-3000

To get started configuring the Motorola Netopia-3000 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Motorola Netopia-3000

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

The WiFi guide starts on the Home page of the Motorola Netopia-3000. Click the Basic Mode link in the left sidebar. Then click Wireless.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Motorola Netopia-3000

This takes you to the page you see here. First, use the box labeled SSID (Network ID) to enter a new name for your network. This name should be unique but not include any personal information. Click this link to learn more about this subject.

Next, be sure that the box titled Enable Wireless Protected Setup (WPS) is not checked. Do not use WPS. Click this link to learn why.

Below that is the Encryption Key. We recommend using WPA2-PSK. If this router doesn't allow for that, we recommend updating your firmware to allow for it. If you are interested in the differences in the various options, read our WEP vs. WPA guide.

You now need to enter a Key or Passphrase. This is the password you use to allow wireless devices onto your network. Learn how to create a strong password in our guide, Choosing a Strong Password.

Click the Submit button when you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
