This guide shows you how to reset your Netcomm NF17ACV router. A router reset is very different than a router reboot. Unplugging a router from the wall reboots it. This is different from a reset because a reset completely erases all settings from the router.

Warning: Before you continue, there are a few things you need to know. A router reset will affect the following settings:

  • The router's username and password are reset to factory defaults.
  • All WiFi settings are reset, including network name and password.
  • Any ISP settings saved in your router will be removed. You may have to contact your ISP.
  • Any firewall settings, parental controls, and port forwards that you have configured will be removed.

A router reset is the last step you should take in recovering your router's password. Before you reset your router, you may want to try recovering your router password with our Router Password Finder.

If you are unable to recover your lost router password, then you may have to proceed with a full router reset.

Reset the Netcomm NF17ACV

Most routers have a small button on either the back or the bottom. Look at your router and try to find something that looks like this:

Router Reset Button

Yours may look slightly different, but they are usually tiny. You may need a paper clip to push the reset button.

Keep an eye on the lights on the front of your router while holding the reset button down for about 10 seconds. The lights on the front of the router should do something different when the reset happens. You cannot hold the button too long, and it will not hurt the router to hold the reset button down for longer than 10 seconds.

Just don't forget that this will totally reset your Netcomm NF17ACV router.

Be sure to only reset your router if you have tried everything else, such as running our Router Password Finder software, which can find your lost or forgotten router password for you.

Login to the Netcomm NF17ACV

After you are finished resetting your router, you need to login in using the original factory username and password. You can follow the NF17ACV Login Guide to find everything that you need to log in.

Change Your Password

You need to change your router's default password after you log in for the first time. Leaving a router password set to default is a very serious security risk. Our Choosing a Strong Password guide talks about choosing a strong password for your router.

Tip: After creating this new password, we highly recommend writing this down on a post-it note and attaching it to the bottom of your router for future reference.
