In this article, you will learn how to reset your Netgear D6400 back to factory settings. This is a much bigger deal than a router reboot. A reboot happens every time a router loses power. This is different from a reset because a reset completely erases all settings from the router.
Warning: This is not a step to be taken lightly. A router reset will affect the following settings:
- The router's username and password are reset.
- Your WiFi name and password are reset.
- If your router has any ISP settings they will be removed, and you will have to contact your ISP.
- All port forwards, firewall settings, and parental controls that you have configured will be removed.
Since a router reset is such a drastic step, it should only be done as a last resort when you cannot recover your router's password using any other methods. Before you reset your router, you may want to try recovering your router password with our Router Password Finder.

Recover Password in Netgear D6400
If you are resetting your router because you forgot your router password, then you should try running our Router Password Finder first.

If you are unable to recover your lost router password, then you may have to proceed with a full router reset.
Reset the Netgear D6400
Most routers have a small button on either the back or the bottom. Look at your router and try to find something that looks like this:
Reset buttons are usually tiny. Yours may look slightly different than this. Sometimes the reset button is under a pinhole on the back of the router, and you need a paper clip to push it.
Watch the lights on the front of your router and hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds. The blinking pattern of the lights on the front of the router should change when the reset is complete. You can hold the button down as long as you like, it will not hurt anything.
Remember, this will erase everything you have previously done to this Netgear D6400 router.

Login to the Netgear D6400

Change Your Password
