Wireless Password
An important part of securing your wireless network is choosing a strong password.
Wireless Channel

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear DG834G
You are now on the correct page to make adjustments to your wireless settings.
- First, you need to change the Name(SSID). This is how you identify your local network. It's not important what you name your network but we suggest avoiding personal information. If you want to learn more, read our Changing Your Wireless Name Guide.
- The second setting that needs attention is the Channel. All you need to do here is check to see if you are using channels 1,6, or 11. To learn why these three channels are important, read our WiFi Channels Guide.
- Now look down the page until you find Security Options. There is a decent sized list here of choices. For the best security we recommend choosing WPA2-PSK(Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 with Pre-Shared Key). To learn why this is our recommendation, read our WEP vs. WPA Guide.
- You are then asked for a Passphrase. This is the password you use to access your network. Create a strong password of at least 14-20 characters. This can be easier than it sounds, check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide for more information.
- Click the Apply button to save your changes.
Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings
After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
