Setup WiFi on the Netgear MR814

The Netgear MR814 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Netgear MR814

You start on the Router Status page of the Netgear MR814v3. Begin by clicking on the Wireless Settings option under Setup.

This page starts with the Name (SSID). This is the network name and needs to be something you come up with. Be creative and avoid using personal information. Check out this guide to learn more.

Below that is the Channel. For the best results everyone should use channels 1,6, or 11. Find out why in our WiFi Channels Guide.

Next is the Security Options. We recommend WPA2-PSK which this router version doesn't have. We strongly recommend updating your firmware to allow for the best security option of WPA2-PSK. Learn more about this in our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

That's it, just don't forget to save by clicking Apply.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
