This guide shows you how to reset your Netgear Nighthawk AX5 RAX29 router to factory default settings. This is a much bigger deal than a router reboot. Every time your router loses power it reboots. This is different from a reset because a reset completely erases all settings from the router.
Warning: Before you continue, there are a few things you need to know. The following settings in your router will be changed:
- The router's login credentials are reset to factory defaults.
- All WiFi settings are reset, including network name and password.
- Any ISP settings saved in your router will be removed. You may have to contact your ISP.
- Any parental controls, firewall settings, or port forwards will be removed.

Reset the Netgear Nighthawk AX5 RAX29
Most routers have a small button on either the back or the bottom. A typical reset button looks like this:
Even though yours may look slightly different, you need to look for a tiny button. You may need a paper clip to push the reset button.
Hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds while watching the lights on the front of your router. After a few seconds the lights should blink differently. When this happens, the reset is complete. Do not be concerned about holding the reset button down too long. It will not hurt anything.
