Setup WiFi on the Netgear Nighthawk R6900

Find the WiFi Settings on the Netgear Nighthawk R6900

We start this guide on the Home page of the Netgear Nighthawk R6900 router. To change your wireless network settings click the Advanced tab. From there click Setup on the left hand side of the page and Wireless Setup just below that.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear Nighthawk R6900

Be sure to only make your changes in the Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n) section of the page.

Begin by setting a Name (SSID). This will serve as your network identification and can be anything you want it to be. However, due to security reasons we strongly recommend avoiding the use of any personal information. For more on this subject be sure to visit our Wireless Names Guide.

Next is the Channel. Open the drop down list and choose either 1, 6, or 11. Why are these the best options? Read our WiFi Channels Guide to find out.

Lastly you'll need to set a Password (Network Key). This can be anything you want it to be, however bear in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information. For more help take a look through our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
