In this article, you will learn how to reset your Netgear Nighthawk R6900P back to factory settings. Resetting a router is different than rebooting a router. Every time your router loses power it reboots. However, when you reset a router you, return it back to its factory default settings.

Warning: This is not a step to be taken lightly. The following settings in your router will be changed:

  • The router's login credentials are reset to factory defaults.
  • All WiFi login information and network names are reset.
  • All ISP settings will reset to default, and you may have to contact your ISP.
  • Any parental controls, firewall settings, or port forwards will be removed.

Resetting your router should be considered the last step. Before you reset your router, you may want to try recovering your router password with our Router Password Finder.

Yours may look slightly different, but they are usually tiny. If you find a pinhole on the back of the router then that may be the reset button. You will need a paper clip to push it.

Keep an eye on the lights on the front of your router while holding the reset button down for about 10 seconds. You should notice that the blinking pattern of the lights on the front of the router changes after a few seconds. You can hold the button down as long as you like, it will not hurt anything.

Remember, this will erase everything you have previously done to this Netgear Nighthawk R6900P router.

This last step should only be taken if you have tried everything else, such as using our Router Password Finder software, which can recover lost or forgotten router passwords.
