This guide shows you how to reset your Netgear Nighthawk R7300 router. Resetting a router is different than rebooting a router. Turning a router off and back on again causes a reboot. Resetting a router erases all settings from it and returns it to factory defaults.
Warning: Since this erases everything you have done to the router, there are some things you need to consider first. A router reset will affect the following settings:
- The router's login credentials are reset to factory defaults.
- All WiFi login information and network names are reset.
- Any ISP settings saved in your router will be removed. You may have to contact your ISP.
- Any firewall settings, parental controls, and port forwards that you have configured will be removed.
A router reset should be considered the last resort when you cannot log in to your router any other way. Before you reset your router, you may want to try recovering your router password with our Router Password Finder.

Reset the Netgear Nighthawk R7300
There is usually a small reset button located on either the back or the bottom of a router. This is what a typical reset button looks like:
Your reset button may look different, but usually they are very small. You might find a pinhole on the back of the router that requires a paper clip to push the button hidden under it.
Hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds while watching the lights on the front of your router. You should notice that the blinking pattern of the lights on the front of the router changes after a few seconds. It is harmless to hold the reset button too long.
Just don't forget that this will totally reset your Netgear Nighthawk R7300 router.
