This article covers how to reset the Netgear Nighthawk RAX80 router back to factory default settings. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. Unplugging a router from the wall reboots it. A Router Reset completely erases the router and returns it to factory settings.
Warning: This is not a step to be taken lightly. When you reset your router, the following will happen.
- The router's username and password are reset to factory defaults.
- Your WiFi name and password are reset.
- Your ISP settings are reset, which means you will have to contact your ISP to get them back.
- All parental controls, firewall settings, and port forwards will be removed.
A router reset should be considered the last resort when you cannot log in to your router any other way. You should be sure that you have tried to at least recover your router password using our Router Password Finder before resorting to a router reset.

Reset the Netgear Nighthawk RAX80
Most routers have a small button on either the back or the bottom. What you are looking for is something that looks like this:
Yours may look slightly different, but they are usually tiny. Sometimes the button is under a pinhole, and you need a paper clip to push it.
Keep an eye on the lights on the front of your router while holding the reset button down for about 10 seconds. Notice how the lights on the front of the router are blinking. When the lights do something different, the router is reset. Do not worry about holding the button down too long; this is harmless.
Just don't forget that this will totally reset your Netgear Nighthawk RAX80 router.

Login to the Netgear Nighthawk RAX80

Change Your Password

Tip: Write your new password down on a note and tape it to the bottom of your router for future reference.
