This is the reset guide for the Netgear SRX5308 router. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. Unplugging a router from the wall reboots it. This is very different from a reset, which erases a router completely and returns it to factory default settings.
Warning: Make sure that you fully understand the following before resetting your router. When you reset your router, the following will happen.
- The router's login credentials are reset to factory defaults.
- All WiFi settings are reset, including network name and password.
- Any ISP settings saved in your router will be removed. You may have to contact your ISP.
- All port forwards, firewall settings, and parental controls that you have configured will be removed.
A router reset should be considered the last resort when you cannot log in to your router any other way. Make sure that you have tried to recover your router password using our Router Password Finder first.

If you are unable to recover your lost router password, then you may have to proceed with a full router reset.
Reset the Netgear SRX5308
Most of the time you can find a small reset button located on either the back or the bottom of a router. Look at your router and try to find something that looks like this:
Yours may look slightly different, but they are usually tiny. Sometimes the button is under a pinhole, and you need a paper clip to push it.
Watch the lights on the front of your router and hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds. The blinking pattern of the lights on the front of the router should change when the reset is complete. You cannot hold the button too long, and it will not hurt the router to hold the reset button down for longer than 10 seconds.
Keep in mind that this will completely reset your Netgear SRX5308 router.
This last step should only be taken if you have tried everything else, such as using our Router Password Finder software, which can recover lost or forgotten router passwords.
Login to the Netgear SRX5308
Now that you have finished resetting the router, you need to login to the router interface using the default username and password. Our SRX5308 Login Guide has all of the information that you need.
Change Your Password
After logging in to your router for the first time, you need to change your router's password. It's a very bad idea to leave your router's password set to the factory default. You can follow our Choosing a Strong Password guide to help you pick a solid password for your router.
Tip: Write your new password down on a note and tape it to the bottom of your router for future reference.
