You are now on the correct page to configure the WiFi settings. Use the box labeled Name (SSID) to enter a new network name. It doesn't really matter what you enter here but it's a good idea to avoid personal information. Check out our guide titled How to Change your Wireless Name.

Now look for the Channel. Set this to 1,6, or 11. Find out why you should only use one of these three channels in our WiFi Channels Guide.

Use the drop down list titled Security mode to choose the appropriate security mode for your network. We recommend WPA2-PSK. If this router doesn't offer this security option, we recommend updating your firmware to allow for it. Check out our guide for more information on this subject, WEP vs. WPA.

Set the Cipher Type to AES.

The last setting that needs to be changed is titled Passphrase. Go ahead and enter a password here. It's important that you enter a strong password here. We recommend a minimum of 14-20 characters. Check out our guide titled Choosing a Strong Password for more information.

That's it, just don't forget to click the Apply button before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
