Setup WiFi on the Netgear WNDR3700

The Netgear WNDR3700 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

Login To The Netgear WNDR3700

Find the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WNDR3700

This guide starts on the Basic Settings page of the Netgear WNDR3700 router. To setup the WiFi click the option of Wireless Settings in the left sidebar under the main heading of Setup.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WNDR3700

This directs you to the page you see above. To change the Name (SSID) find the appropriate space and create a new name of your choosing here. While it really doesn't matter what you enter here, we recommend avoiding personal information.

Next is the Channel. Be sure you are using channels 1,6, or 11.

Below that is the Security Options. There are quite a few different choices here. For the best security, pick the option of WPA2-PSK[AES].

Once you have done this, you need to change the Passphrase. This is the password for your network and should be strong. We recommend at least 14-20 characters and at least one symbol, number, and capital letter.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
